Sailors end season with district loss
The season came to an end for the Sailors (11-9-1) with a 65-13 loss to Grand Haven at the team districts. Sophomore Taylor McPhail (119), sophomore Adam Pawlowski (130), and junior Derek Baker all picked up wins.
Nowak, Nick Hendricks capture conference crowns
While the team placed fifth at the OK Black conference meet, seniors Matt Nowak and Nick Hendricks brought home conference titles. Sophomore Taylor McPhail came in second, and sophomore Chris Hendricks came in third.
Shores gets past EGR, 47-36
The Sailors (11-8-1) picked up four forfeit wins and three pins in the 47-36 win over East Grand Rapids. Picking up pins were sophomore Taylor McPhail (119) in 1:42, senior Zach Fields (160) in 56 seconds and sophomore Chris Hendricks (285) in 1:22. Senior Matt Nowak (171) picked up a 15-0 victory.
Sailors post 42-36 win over Holland
In the Sailors’ 42-36 win over Holland, Shores (10-8-1) picked up pins by junior Colin Duca (125) in 3:38 and by sophomore Adam Pawlowski (130) in 5:42. Senior Nick Hendricks (215) picked up an 11-1 win. The Sailors also picked up four forfeit wins.
Shores wins only four weight classes in loss to Greenville
The Sailors (9-8-1) only won four wreight classes in a 56-17 loss to Greenville. Sophomore Taylor McPhail (119) won a 15-0 decision, senior Matt Nowak (171) won by pin in 2:41, senior Nick Hendricks (215) won 9-8, and sophomore Chris Hendricks (285) won 4-3.
Sailors have four runners-up at City meet
Shores had four wrestlers make it to the championship match at the City meet; unfortunately, all four lost and placed second. As a team, the Sailors finished in fifth place with 105.5 points. Shores quickly fell behind 21-0 after four matches to Lowell but outscored the Red Arrows 39-9 over the final 10 matches for the 39-30 win. The Sailors (8-6-1) had only four wins in the 51-16 loss to Forest Hills Central. Rudy Fierros (189) picked up a pin in 3:36 while sophomore Taylor McPhail (119) won 9-0, senior Matt Nowak (171) won 3-0 and senior Nick Hendricks (215) won 7-4.
